Each town on Cape Cod has its own special charm-except the town
of Barnstable. Barnstable, the town of seven villages, has a myriad of charm,
with each village having its own distinct flavor and character. On the
northside the villages of Barnstable and West Barnstable share the historic
charm of Route 6A, beautiful Sandy Neck and Barnstable Harbor. Centerville,
Osterville and Cotuit on the southside share Nantucket Sound and its wonderful
harbors, bays, inlets and beaches. Marstons Mills, inland, has quiet ponds,
recreational lakes and tree shaded neighborhoods, while Hyannis is the
commercial and retail Hub of Cape Cod. Renowned Hyannisport, is a part of the
village of Hyannis.
Barnstable's numbers are impressive. Incorporated in 1639 Barnstable's 7
villages house 40,000 people within its 60 square miles. Located just about in
the middle of Cape Cod, 70 miles from Boston, Barnstable is traversed by Routes
6, 6A and 28. Barnstable has 6 marinas, 19 beaches, 5 golf courses, 12 ball
fields, 6 public tennis courts, 7 libraries, 13 public schools, 6 fire
stations, 11 voting precincts and several museums, historic sites and
memorials. There are also private schools, a community college, a theatre,
miles of walking trails and acres of conservation land.
Beyond the facilities and activities though is the varied lifestyles that are
available here in Barnstable. You can live on the ocean, by a marsh, lake-side,
on a scenic road, a quiet lane, a busy thoroughfare, in a close-knit
neighborhood or by a woody path. You can choose from a knotty pine cabin, a New
England Cape, a sprawling ranch, a modern edifice or an elegant mansion.
Yes, Barnstable offers a myriad of opportunities for a satisfying lifestyle.

149 in West Barnstable is the old graveyard where Captain "Mad Jack"
Percival is at rest. Captain Percival undertook the task of restoring the
