Named for the pious elder pilgrim father William Brewster in 1659
when its boundaries also included Harwich, Brewster (the "North
Parish") was separated and incorporated as a town in 1803. Brewsters
rich soil and abundant sea sustained early residents. Packet boats carried the
large quantities of salt and vegetables produced here to other ports. Later sea
captains sailed their magnifcent Clipper Ships out of Brewster to faraway
ports-of-call, including the Orient. The stately homes of these sea captains
still grace Main Street (Route 6A). In fact Brewster is often called
"Americas Sea Captains Town". Brewster has eight miles of
tidal shore- line with eight beaches, and there are several fresh water
beaches. The Cape Cod Rail Trail and other trails provide for walking, biking,
etc. The Herring Run, the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Punkhorn
Parklands and Nickerson State Park offer a variety of delightful activities.
There are two 18 hole golf courses, tennis courts, galleries, antique shops,
specialty shops, and more.
The town has a grand selection of home styles, sizes and prices in a variety of
settings. Brewsters fine schools, solid government and home variety
combined with its scenic beauty and historic charm make it a much-sought-after
community. Be sure to take a look at Vacation Cape Cod's Brewster Vacation
