The beaches of West Dennis aren’t the Cape’s busiest or most popular, which is good news when vacationing in the village.
West Dennis Beach sees the most traffic in the summer, but it’s also the community’s largest waterfront area, so there’s more than enough space to spread out.
This beach sits on Davis Beach Road and has an extensive parking lot with plenty of room for visitors. The parking area is actually about a mile long and runs the entire length of the beach, giving you all kinds of space when spending a day in the sand.
Amenities at West Dennis Beach include a snack shack, restrooms, rinse towers, and surf chair rentals. There’s also a boardwalk that makes for a nice place to take a walk and a playground for the kids.
Keep in mind that the east end of the parking lot is for Dennis residents only, and there’s a $30 per day beach parking fee to use the public area.
Although West Dennis Beach is the community’s largest waterfront area, it’s far from the only option. Trotting Park Beach, which sits at the end of Trotting Park Road, is a tiny strip of sand that’s the perfect spot to relax away from the crowds. This beach doesn’t get busy and doesn’t offer any parking, making it an outstanding place to visit if you’re walking or riding your bike to the waterfront.
The final beach in West Dennis is South Village Beach, a facility near the mouth of the Swan River. This beach is also tiny, albeit not as small as Trotting Park Beach, with a dirt parking lot and no on-site facilities. The water is exceptionally shallow at South Village Beach, creating a popular spot for families.
It’s $30 per day to park at this beach, too, although it’s sometimes possible to find free street parking a few blocks away.

2) Eating at the Restaurants on Main Street
Main Street in West Dennis isn’t the most happening place on the Cape, but it has enough dining options to satisfy you while vacationing there. This area is lined with historic homes, many of which are now businesses, creating a unique atmosphere while you dine.
For Chinese food, you can head to Royal Palace Restaurant, while O’Shea’s Olde Inn is a traditional Irish pub with weekend entertainment. La Tacodilla offers Mexican cuisine, and The Breakfast Room and Three Fins Coffee Roasters are morning-time favorites.
You’ll also find two places to stop for dessert if you’re wandering West Dennis in the afternoon or evening: The House of Ice Cream and Beaches & Cream Ice Cream & Acai.
Or, you can walk a block south on School Street and visit Paradise Pizza Dennis or the Good Friends Cafe.
Main Street also has antique stores, a library, a sporting goods shop, and plenty of places to stop for souvenirs, making it easy to spend a few hours in the area.
3) Paddling at Bass River Park
Heading west on Main Street eventually takes you over the Bass River Bridge into South Yarmouth. However, before crossing the bridge, you’ll see a park on the shores of the Bass River that’s appropriately named Bass River Park.
This park features a boardwalk along the water, in addition to picnic tables, benches, a green space, docks, and some excellent bird watching opportunities. You can rent a kayak or standup paddleboard at the park from Cape Cod Waterways, too, at a rate of $25 per hour. Discounts are also available on longer rentals.
Exploring the Bass River by kayak offers an entirely different perspective and is sure to add a great deal to your West Dennis vacation.

While West Dennis doesn’t get the same attention as larger communities like Hyannis and South Yarmouth, its location more than makes up for its lack of nightlife and bustle.
