Spending a week or two on Cape Cod allows you to get to know and experience the community like a local. After all, you’ll have time to visit the parks and beaches, eat at various restaurants, hike and bike the trails, and shop at multiple retailers.
Staying on the Cape for the entirety of your vacation also gives you time to visit some farmers’ markets. The area has a bunch of them to check out, and you’ll find an option almost every day of the week.
Here’s some information on the farmers’ markets running on Cape Cod in 2022.
Early-Week Markets
The first market of the week takes place on Monday between 8:00 AM and noon in Truro. The Truro Educational Farmers’ Market, as it is known, sits in a small park on the banks of the Pamet River on Truro Center Road.
This market is easily accessible because it’s just off Route 6, and you’ll find a wide selection of local food items like fruit, vegetables, bread, honey, and flowers. You can also find humanely-raised beef, pork, and chicken, in addition to coffee and wine.
On Tuesdays, you’ll have two options: The Sandwich Farmers’ Market and the Chatham Farmers’ Market.
The Sandwich option is held in the Henry T. Wing School parking lot on Water Street, a few minutes south of Dexter Grist Mill and other downtown attractions. The market is known for its fresh fruit, vegetables, and baked goods, although you can also pick up eggs, grass-fed beef, pizza, honey, cheese, coffee, and seafood. It runs from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
The Chatham Farmers’ Market has a fair amount of organic produce from local vendors. You can also purchase locally roasted coffee, eggs, dairy, freshly-squeezed juices, and pasture-raised meat. This market starts at 3:00 PM and ends at 6:00.
Markets on Wednesdays and Thursdays
As the week continues, the number of farmers’ markets on Cape Cod increases.
On Wednesdays, you can find markets at The Grove at the Congregational Church in Wellfleet and Windmill Village in Brewster, while Thursday brings markets to South Yarmouth, Falmouth, and Harwich.
The Wellfleet Farmers’ Market runs between 8:00 AM and noon, allowing you to get out early and buy local produce. Of course, local fruits and veggies are the highlights, but the market features jams, spice rubs, eggs, garlic, cheese, honey, and local meat, too. You can also pick up some souvenirs if you wish.
The Brewster Historical Society Farmers’ Market goes from 4:00 PM until 6:00 and features meats, seafood, eggs, bread, and local produce boxes. Keep in mind that you must pre-order your food and use the curbside pickup option for this market, so you’ll have to plan ahead.
The Bass River Farmers’ Market in South Yarmouth starts at 9:00 AM and runs until 1:30 PM at a small park across from The Cultural Center of Cape Cod. Fruit, vegetables, herbs, and eggs are always available at this market, while lobster, scallops, finfish, pastries, muffins, pickles, bread, jams, and cookies sometimes make appearances.
The Falmouth Farmers’ Market goes from noon until 5:00 PM at Marine Park on the Inner Harbor. This market is the one to visit if you’re looking for fresh seafood, although fruit, vegetables, eggs, bread, coffee, and other staples are also available.
The Harwich Farmers’ Market is at the Brooks Academy Museum, just off Main Street, from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM. This market specializes in fruit and vegetables, but you’ll also come across soap, preserves, baked goods, and flowers.
Friday and Saturday Markets
The only major Friday market is the Osterville Farmers’ Market, which goes from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the Osterville Historical Museum. Fruit, vegetables, and baked goods are the most common items at this market, but you can also grab flowers, cheese, sweets, and spices.
There are three markets on Saturdays, giving you all sorts of selection.
First, the Bass River Farmers’ Market returns at the same location and time as its Thursday version. It also has many of the same vendors.
Another option is the Orleans Farmers’ Market, which runs from 8:00 AM until noon in a field near the Orleans Marketplace mall. The Orleans market specializes in organic produce, and you’ll also find bread, chicken, beef, eggs, soaps, herbs, pies, and jellies from local farmers.
Finally, the Provincetown Educational Farmers’ Market goes between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM next to Town Hall on Ryder Street. You’ll find fresh produce at the Ptown market, in addition to pasture-raised beef, pork, goat, and poultry, and seafood like lobster and scallops.
