A Look at Barlows Landing in Pocasset Village

Pocasset is a small village in the town of Bourne with about 3,000 residents and overlooking Buzzards Bay. The community sits near the southern mouth of the Cape Cod Canal and features multiple beaches, some busy marinas, outstanding hiking trails, and an excellent dining scene.

Barlows Landing is a quiet neighborhood in Pocasset that provides a first-class backdrop for your Cape Cod vacation. The community has everything you’ll need for a short-term rental while making it easy to immerse yourself in the Cape’s one-of-a-kind lifestyle.

As a bonus, Barlows Landing is a less-than-ten-minute drive from downtown Bourne and the Bourne Bridge and 20 minutes from Sandwich and downtown Falmouth, ensuring you’re never far from the amenities of these larger centers.

Here’s a look at what it’s like to spend your vacation in Barlows Landing when booking a vacation rental in the area.

Barlows Landing Beach

The great thing about Barlows Landing Beach is that Wings Neck and Bassetts Island Landing protect it from wind, waves, and currents. The result is calm, shallow water that’s perfect for kids. It’s also a sandy spot that’s highly relaxing and one of the best places on the Cape to take in a sunset.

There’s a boat launch and dock beside the beach that makes putting your boat in the water a breeze. The ramp is paved, so you can quickly launch your vessel into Pocasset Habor before loading up your family and exploring Buzzards Bay or the Canal.

Alternatively, you can visit Hen’s Cove Public Beach at the south end of the Barlows Landing neighborhood. This beach also features calm water, plenty of sand, a boat launch, and a dock.

Remember that visitor parking permits aren’t available for Barlows Landing Beach or Hen’s Cove Beach unless you’re staying in the community for at least 30 days. You’ll have to show proof that you have a 30-day rental before Bourne officials allow you to purchase a pass, and that includes trailer parking by the boat launch.

Both beaches are within walking distance of most vacation rentals in Barlows Landing, though, so you can spend a day in the sun without worrying about your vehicle.

The Marinas

If using the town-operated boat launches and parking back at your vacation rentals seems like a bit of a chore, you’re in luck because they aren’t the only options in the Barlows Landing neighborhood. A few private marinas nearby offer transient and seasonal slips, depending on how long you’re staying.

Red Brook Harbor, located at the south end of Pocasett and a short drive from Barlows Landing, is home to the Kingman Yacht Center. Here, you can rent a transient mooring or slip with a reservation, allowing you to keep your boat in the water throughout your entire vacation. The marina next door, Parker’s Boat Yard, has 130 moorings and nine slips, some of which are available for daily rentals.

The same location is home to Diablo Sportfishing, a popular fishing charter company, and the Freedom Boat Club. If you don’t own a boat, this club is worth looking into because it permits you to borrow vessels in multiple communities, including Pocasset, by paying a monthly membership fee.

Scallop Bay Marina is another option just north of Barlows Landing, but keep in mind that they only offer seasonal slip rentals.

Restaurants and Shops

Although Barlows Landing is a small residential neighborhood, it has a couple of dining options that you’re sure to love.

First, there’s Graziella’s Pizza, a local chain serving brick oven pizza, pasta, wings, soups, salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, and calzones. They also have a smoothie bar, a dessert menu, beer, and wine. You can dine-in, eat on their patio, or order delivery, as well.

The Corner Cafe sits across from Graziella’s and is open for breakfast and lunch. This diner-style establishment has a menu featuring morning-time favorites like eggs, bacon, toast, and coffee, in addition to burgers and sandwiches for lunch.

Both restaurants are less than a ten-minute walk from the beach, making it easy to wander over from your vacation rental at any time.

Snacks and other food for your vacation rental are available at the Country Farm convenience store. While it isn’t ideal for grocery shopping, it’s an easy place to pick up the essentials.

Pocasset Country Market grocery store is close, as well. You can walk there in about 15-minutes from the vacation rentals in Barlows Landing or drive in a couple of minutes when stocking up on food for the week.

Getting to Barlows Landing

Reaching Barlows Landing is straightforward, as all you have to do when arriving on the Cape is follow Route 28, the same road that takes you over the Bourne Bridge, and turn right at the sign directing you to Barlows Landing Road. From there, Barlows Landing Road takes you directly to Barlows Landing Beach.

Barlows Landing is one of Cape Cod’s most accessible communities while remaining secluded and off-the-beaten-path. These elements come together to create a relaxing place to spend your next vacation.
