A Look at Some of Dennis Port's Best Patios
Posted by Kinlin Grover | Thursday, May 20, 2021

Visiting Cape Cod in the summer often means spending large chunks of your time outdoors. There's a good reason for staying outside, as the region usually has lovely weather in the warmest months of the year with more than enough beaches, bike paths, and hiking trails to keep you occupied.

There's more good news, too, as the Cape has an active patio scene in the summer with all types of restaurants getting in on the action.

In Dennis Port, there are outdoor dining areas everywhere, thanks mainly to the community's location overlooking Nantucket Sound.

Here's a look at some of the community's most popular patios that you might want to check out during your Cape Cod vacation.

The Ocean House Beach Bar

One of the more scenic patios anywhere on Cape Cod is the Ocean House Beach Bar. This venue sits directly on Nantucket Sound, offering unobstructed views over the ocean that few other bars or restaurants can match. The bar area has televisions, too, if you want to catch the game in style.

After arriving at the Beach Bar, you'll find an extensive drink menu featuring craft cocktails, local beer, and a decent selection of wine. You can order food from the Ocean House Restaurant, too, if you're in the mood for a meal.

The Sailing Cow

Also overlooking Nantucket Sound is The Sailing Cow, a Southern-style restaurant sitting across from Glendon Road Beach. This restaurant is a great place to head for lunch if you're spending your day by the sand, and it has daily specials on things like chicken wings, oysters, margaritas, and draft beer.

The patio at The Sailing Cow isn't the area's most prominent, but its views of the water make it well worth a visit. It's also worth noting that the venue has live music on weekends, so you can spend your afternoon on the patio before venturing inside to catch a band in the evening.

The DogHouse

Following Glendon Road north from The Sailing Cow takes you to The DogHouse, a unique takeout counter specializing in hot dogs. You'll find pretty much any type of hot dog you can imagine at The DogHouse, and they have varieties that you've probably never heard of before, as well.

In addition to hot dogs, you can grab hamburgers, lobster rolls, tacos, salads, fries, and chicken at this roadside vendor, and its patio is full of picnic tables that create a unique atmosphere as you enjoy your food. They have local beer and iced coffee, too, so you can grab a drink while you soak up some sun.

Cleat and Anchor

The Cleat and Anchor is a tavern and restaurant on Lower County Road with a lively patio that turns into a beer garden experience on summer nights. Locals and visitors alike gather in the outdoor area for bar games, drinks, and a festive atmosphere.

As for the menu, you'll find an extensive tap list that focuses on craft beer at the Cleat and Anchor, in addition to wine, cider, and cocktails. The dinner menu has a bit of everything, including house-smoked BBQ dishes, sandwiches, pasta, steak, chicken, seafood, soups, salads, and burgers.

If you're looking for a weekend brunch, you can stop by the venue between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Saturday or Sunday for quiche, crepes, eggs benny, chicken and waffles, and breakfast burritos.

It's never a bad time on the patio at the Cleat and Anchor, which is perhaps why its outdoor area is so popular.

Clancy's Restaurant

The patio at Clancy's Restaurant is far more serene than at the Cleat and Anchor, but it's incredibly scenic and a calming location to stop for a meal or a couple of drinks. That's because the venue's outdoor area overlooks the Swan Pond River, making it a beautiful place to spend an afternoon.

The menu at Clancy's is massive, offering a selection of American-style classics like burgers, sandwiches, and chicken wings. There's also some Cape-style cuisine, such as fried clams, baked scallops, a raw bar, and fish and chips, and you can even grab a lobster roll, lobster salad, or lobster dinner at the restaurant.

You can choose between a beer, some wine, or a craft cocktail, including some frozen options, at Clancy's, too, which is a nice touch if you're looking for a patio in the sun to enjoy a drink or two.

Checking Out Some of Cape Cod's Patios

Dennis Port is a popular destination with the Cape's guests because there's so much activity in the area. The patio scene is a significant part of this activity because it provides the opportunity to stay outdoors while enjoying some food and drinks at a high-end restaurant.

There's likely a patio that's easily accessible from your Cape Cod vacation rental, so search around and find the ideal one to visit.

Top 5 Coffee Shops in Chatham, Massachusetts
Posted by Kinlin Grover | Thursday, May 13, 2021

Vacations and coffee seem to go hand-in-hand, as late nights often leave you seeking a little pick-me-up first thing in the morning. The great thing about spending your holiday in a Cape Cod vacation rental is that you'll have a coffeemaker in the kitchen, so heading out in search of a cup isn't always necessary.

Of course, trying new things might be one of the main reasons you're taking a vacation in the first place, so you might find yourself wandering downtown Chatham looking for coffee shops that locals seem to frequent.

The good news is that Chatham, MA, has no shortage of places to grab a good cup of coffee, so here's a look at five of the town's best.

1) Monomoy Coffee

If you're lucky enough to secure a vacation rental near Chatham's Main Street, you're never more than a few steps from a great coffee shop. This area is also highly walkable, making it the perfect place for an early-morning stroll.

One of the most popular venues for locals is the Monomoy Coffee Company, a tiny shop near Little Mill Pond with everything you could want in the morning.

For starters, they serve coffee roasted in Mashpee by Cape Cod Coffee. This coffee is available hot or iced, and they have Americano, espresso, macchiato, cappuccino, latte, and cafe au lait.

You can also turn your visit into an entire meal thanks to their breakfast menu featuring smoothies, bagels, and breakfast sandwiches. If you arrive a little later in the day, sandwiches and wraps are available for lunch.

As a bonus, you can grab coffee beans by the pound so you can brew a local cup at your vacation rental the following morning.

2) Chatham Village Cafe and Bakery

Just off the north end of Main Street on Crowell Road is the Chatham Village Cafe and Bakery, a popular family-friendly venue with a lot to offer in the morning.

As the name suggests, this cafe serves various baked goods, including bread, donuts, rolls, cakes, pastries, and pies, all of which are made on-site. If you're coming in for breakfast or lunch, the Chatham Village Cafe and Bakery has you covered.

The cafe also has one of the Cape's most extensive coffee menus, featuring lattes, cappuccinos, mocha lattes, Americanos, espressos, and drip coffees. Multiple iced coffees are available, as well.

Or, if you're in the mood for something a little different, they have a specialty menu featuring coffees you've probably never even heard of before, making every visit to the Chatham Village Cafe and Bakery a unique experience.

3) Chatham Village Market

Although it isn't what you'd expect in a traditional coffee shop, the Chatham Village Market has that element to it. First and foremost, this venue is a grocery store. However, it also has an on-site bakery with freshly-brewed coffee, so you can grab a cup and some breakfast while doing your early-morning grocery shopping.

One of the best things about the Chatham Village Market is that they serve B-Side Coffee, which is roasted right in Chatham. You can also grab this coffee by the bag, ensuring you wake up every morning to a cup of the town's finest brew.

The Chatham Village Market sits on Main Street and opens every morning at 7:00 AM, ensuring you don't have to wait for your cup of coffee.

4) Dunkin Donuts

No trip to Massachusetts would be complete without stopping by Dunkin' Donuts at least once. Although downtown Chatham doesn't have a Dunkin', there's one on Main Street in West Chatham that is easily accessible from vacation rentals in that area.

Once inside, you'll see all the items you'd expect to find at a Dunkin' location, including donuts, breakfast sandwiches, bagels, wraps, iced coffee drinks, and, of course, hot coffee. You can also grab bags of packaged coffee or K-cup pods for your vacation rental, should you want to enjoy another cup of their famous coffee the following day.

5) Chatham Perk

Not to be outdone, North Chatham has a famous coffee shop called the Chatham Perk. This small shop has a diverse menu featuring sandwiches, paninis, and baked goods. There's also a juice and smoothie bar and outdoor seating for warmer mornings. You can grab lunch there, too, if you're a little slow getting away from the vacation rental first thing.

As for the coffee, the Chatham Perk offers multiple options from Cape Cod Coffee, both by the cup or bag, and they have specialty items like cold brews, iced mocha lattes, and chai lattes.

Choosing Your Coffee in Chatham

The great thing about these Chatham coffee shops is that they all sell bags of beans that you can take back to your vacation rental or even bring home with you. That way, you can spend your mornings relaxing without worrying about where you'll find your first cup of the day.

Of course, since you can grab breakfast at all of these venues, you might find yourself wandering Main Street, West Chatham, or North Chatham, enjoying these local favorites.

Where to Buy Groceries in Eastham, Massachusetts
Posted by Kinlin Grover | Thursday, May 6, 2021

One of the main perks of staying in a Cape Cod vacation rental is that it'll be equipped with a kitchen. As a result, you won't have to eat out for every meal, helping you save time and money throughout your holiday.

If you're lucky enough to snag a vacation rental in Eastham, MA, you'll immediately fall in love with the location thanks to the community's parks, beaches, hiking trails, ponds, and accessibility. Eastham doesn't have the same name recognition as larger centers like Hyannis and Falmouth, but it's a fantastic place to spend your vacation.

However, you could experience issues when looking for groceries to stock your cupboards because the town doesn't have stores on every corner like a major city.

There's hope, though, because you will find some stores if you know where to search.

Here's a look at some markets and grocery stores in Eastham and its surrounding towns that will help keep your kitchen full of food all vacation long.

Eastham Superette

Depending on the location of your vacation rental, the most convenient place to grab groceries might be Eastham Superette, a grocery store that enjoys a central location on Route 6 beside Windmill Green.

This locally-owned store has been in operation since 1952 and has never closed for a single day since that time. That's right, they haven't closed for an entire day in nearly 70 years.

Once inside, you'll find a wide selection of groceries, including plenty of organic items, in addition to a deli, ready-made breakfast and lunch sandwiches, beach items, and a full liquor store.

If your vacation rental is near downtown Eastham, Eastham Superette should be on your list of grocery stores to visit.

Village Green General Store

When renting in North Eastham, you might check out the Village Green General Store, which sits on Brackett Road, just off Route 6.

First things first, the Village Green General Store is more of a convenience store than a full supermarket. If you're looking for specialty items, this might not be the place to do it.

Still, you'll find some essential grocery items and a limited selection of fresh produce once inside. If you just need a few things to get you through the day or plan to eat at restaurants for most of your vacation, the Village Green General Store might be enough for you.

Wellfleet Market Place

Another option for those staying in North Eastham is Wellfleet Market Place, a general store in downtown Wellfleet with a little bit of everything.

This retailer has plenty of grocery items, so it's worth checking out if there are things you can't find at the Village Green General Store, and it's only about a ten-minute drive from North Eastham, too.

As a bonus, Hatch's Fish and Produce Market is across the street from Wellfleet Market Place, so you can grab some of the Cape's freshest seafood, fruit, and vegetables to enjoy from your vacation rental.

Orleans Grocery Stores

If your vacation rental is in the southern part of Eastham, it might make sense to pop down to Orleans to grab some groceries.

The northern end of downtown Orleans features a Stop & Shop location, where you're sure to find any food items you want to have around the house. Yes, it's a chain, but it's convenient, and you know they'll have everything you need for the week.

For those who'd rather support local, Main Street in Orleans is home to Orleans Whole Food Store and Friends' Marketplace, both of which have a great selection of meat, produce, and other grocery items. There's also Nauset Farms in East Orleans, a local gem that's worth the extra drive.

Downtown Eastham and downtown Orleans are only about three miles apart, so you won't have to travel far to reach most of these shops.

Vacationing in Eastham, MA

As you look through the available vacation rentals on Cape Cod, you'll surely have a vision of how you want your time here to go.

If you're the type of person who wants to cook meals in the unit's kitchen before spending the day at the beach and returning for dinner, finding a local market or grocery store to frequent should be a priority.

Fortunately for those staying in Eastham, there are enough nearby markets that you'll have access to all the food you wish to enjoy on vacation without any hassle whatsoever.
