Whether you’re searching for fresh pastries for breakfast or a loaf of bread to take back to your vacation rental, you’ll find numerous bakeries throughout Cape Cod.

In Dennis alone, there are bakeries in every part of town; it doesn't matter if you’re staying in Dennis Village, Dennis Port, or East Dennis, there’s always a place for baked goods nearby.

The best thing about these venues is that they’re local, so you won’t find the same offerings anywhere else in the country.

Here’s a look at the top five bakeries to visit on your vacation to Dennis, MA.

1) Woolfie’s Bakery

Woolfie’s Bakery is a fixture in Dennis Port, having first opened its doors over 50 years ago. The venue remains true to its roots and is known for its support of the Dennis and Harwich Police Departments, Dennis Fire, and the Cape and Island K9 Relief Fund.

As for the food, Woolfie’s offers fresh pastries and muffins all morning long and also serves bagels, sandwiches, and coffee. They’re open from 7:00 AM until noon every day of the week between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day Weekend before closing for the season.

Reaching Woolfie’s Bakery is incredibly simple, as the restaurant sits on Lower County Road in the heart of Dennis Port. Remember, however, that the building looks like a house. Hence, it’s easy to miss, and the parking is minimal. You can park down the street at the Southside Cantina if you don’t find parking outside.

2) Underground Bakery

In the heart of Dennis Village, right beside The Mercantile, is Underground Bakery, a venue that gets its name from its placement in the basement of Cape Cod Picture Framing. However, don’t let the below-ground location fool you, as Underground Bakery has some of the best baked goods anywhere on the Cape.

Everything available at Underground Bakery is baked on-site, including the fresh bread, muffins, and cupcakes that you can take back to your vacation rental with you. In addition, the bakery has a selection of wraps and sandwiches for breakfast and lunch, including some vegan options.

If you’re into a slightly large meal, you can grab a soup, salad, or bowl of ramen, and don’t forget about the organic, fair-trade coffee from Indigo Coffees that they serve.

Overall, Underground Bakery is accessible, convenient, and delicious, making it a must-visit during your vacation on the Cape.

3) Buckies Biscotti & Bakery Cafe

Back to Dennis Port we go for Buckies Biscotti & Bakery Cafe, which enjoys a central location on Main Street. Buckies has a lot to offer on its bakery menu, including pastries, cookies, cakes, dessert trays, pies, and, of course, biscotti. The biscotti is famous on Cape Cod and comes in various flavors, so you can choose a few that you want to try.

Beyond the bakery, Buckies has a breakfast menu featuring bagels, English muffins, granola, wraps, and sandwiches. You can have lunch there, too, as they serve paninis, sandwiches, and salads.

Buckies is open from 7:00 AM until 3:00 PM Thursday through Monday and 7:00 AM until noon on Tuesday and Wednesday, giving you plenty of opportunities to check them out.

4) The Otherside Pizza and Pastries

Over in East Dennis, Bridge Street is home to a couple of restaurants with the same owners. The Marshside serves seafood dishes and offers water views, while The Otherside is a bakery and pizzeria.

The bakery at The Otherside has a little bit of everything, as they make muffins, pastries, cupcakes, and quiche from scratch. You can also grab a sandwich for lunch if you’re a little more hungry. The bonus when visiting The Otherside is that you can grab a pizza and a beer, as well, which is something that other bakeries on this list can’t match.

5) Village Coffee Shop

Another conveniently positioned bakery in Dennis Village is the Village Coffee Shop, which sits right beside Dennis Public Market on Main Street. This shop is tiny, but it’s also incredibly popular. In fact, there’s often a line in the morning full of people looking to get their hands on some freshly-baked donuts.

In addition to the donuts, which you must try, the shop offers breakfast sandwiches, bagels, muffins, pastries, and coffee, giving you all kinds of options in the morning. The Village Coffee Shop is open daily between 6:30 AM and noon, and it closes during the week in the offseason. You’ll want to stop by this small bakery if you’re a donut lover.

Making the Most of Your Time in Dennis

Booking a vacation rental in Dennis puts you in the heart of much of what the Cape has to offer, as you’ll have access to beaches, restaurants, bike trails, and hiking areas. You’ll also be close to numerous high-end bakeries, no matter which part of town you’re spending your time.

Give a couple of these bakeries a try during your vacation because you won’t find flavors like these anywhere else on the East Coast.

The Top 5 Bakeries in Falmouth, Massachusetts
Posted by Kinlin Grover | Monday, August 10, 2020

Your Cape Cod vacation will surely be full of fun in the sun, exhilarating hikes, and visiting some of the oldest sites in North America.

At the same time, you've got to eat, right? While the Cape is also a haven for foodies, you'll likely want some food around your vacation rental, too, and there's no better place to stock up than at one of the local bakeries.

In Falmouth, you'll find a wide selection of bakeshops, each of which brings a unique flair to its offerings.

Here are the top five bakeries that you'll find in Falmouth, Massachusetts.

1) Maison Villatte

Maison Villatte enjoys a prime location across from the Falmouth Public Library, but it's more than the position that makes it Falmouth's best bakery. You see, Maison Villatte is the creation of Boris Villatte, who was one of the men behind the PB Boulangerie in Wellfleet and once headed up the bakery at Las Vegas' Wynn Resort. In short, Villatte has all the experience in the world and has created an authentic French bakery in the heart of Falmouth.

Inside, you'll find pretty much any baked goods you could ever want, as 12 to 15 different types of bread are created daily, in addition to pastries, brioche, croissants, cookies, and cakes. The bakery allows customers to either sit-in with a cup of coffee and a sandwich or take their selections home, and you'll place your orders through the front counter.

The quality at Maison Villatte is outstanding, and since the business employs five bakers, they rarely run out of anything, which is a rarity on the Cape.

2) Daily Brew

The Daily Brew Coffee House sits right where North Falmouth and Cataumet meet on Route 28A. Known locally as The Brew, this coffee house is indispensable to members of this community because it's a morning meeting place where friends and family can get together in a comfortable environment. Keep in mind that the cafe gets busy on weekends in the summer, so be prepared to wait in line.

As a visitor to Cape Cod, you'll quickly learn that The Brew is an excellent place to stop for a cup of coffee and a quick breakfast, mostly because of the vast array of baked goods they produce. Once you step through the doors, you'll find bagels, pastries, and muffins, all of which you can take with you to enjoy later on or eat on the patio.

There's more than baked goods at The Daily Brew, as they serve wraps, soup, salad, and sandwiches for lunch, and have a warm breakfast menu, too.

3) Pie in the Sky

Pie in the Sky Bakery & Cafe is located in the heart of Woods Hole and surrounded by other well-known eateries like Captain Kidd, Shuckers, and the Water Street Kitchen. Pie in the Sky offers something a little different, however, as it has a coffeehouse setting along with homemade pies and baked goods that will keep you coming back for more.

One of the great things about Pie in the Sky is that it's open every day except for Christmas Day, so no matter when you take your Cape Cod vacation, you can stop by. In the summer, they have an outdoor coffee bar and seating, allowing you to enjoy the atmosphere of Woods Hole while trying a cup of coffee from beans roasted on-site, and a house-made pastry.

In addition to baked goods, you can also get a full breakfast or lunch at Pie in the Sky, and since they are open late, you can even stop in for dessert.

4) Mary Ellen's Portuguese Bakery

Hiding behind the Dairy Queen on Main Street in Falmouth, Mary Ellen's Portuguese Bakery is a little challenging to find. As a result, many visitors to Cape Cod might not come across it, but locals know it all too well and make it a regular stop throughout the summer.

Mary Ellen's Portuguese Bakery is kind of like two businesses in one, as you can stop in for a sit-down breakfast or brunch of favorites like bacon, eggs, sausages, and hashbrowns. You can also choose from the Portuguese bread and muffins and take them back to your vacation rental.

Keep in mind that Mary Ellen's Portuguese Bakery gets pretty busy in the high season, so you might end up waiting for a table if you go for breakfast. It's well worth it, however, because the place is outstanding.

5) Windfall Market

Windfall Market is actually a grocery store that sits just off Main Street and across the street from Falmouth Harbor. This scenic location in a busy part of town means that it gets plenty of business, including shoppers who are looking for freshly-based goods.

At Windfall Market, you'll find a selection of fresh bread and outstanding desserts, so you can grab a little bit of everything while doing your grocery shopping. The great thing about Windfall Market is that they sell beer and wine, too, so you can stock your vacation rental with everything you'll need for the entire week in one stop.

A supermarket is rarely known for its bakery, but that's precisely what's going on at Windfall Market.

Fresh Baked Goods in Falmouth

Falmouth's bakeries are outstanding, as not only can you take some excellent baked goods back to your vacation rental, but you can also stop in for a quick meal.

Take the time to get to know some of these outstanding venues while spending time on the Cape because you won't find quality like this anywhere else.
